I think a friend of mine summed up today's game pretty well when he said:
"Young pitchers will break your heart."
The only thing worse than Felix getting shelled is Felix getting shelled while I'm sitting at work and unable to swear at the computer, going in and out of meetings and wondering, when I get back from this meeting, how many runs will he have given up?
Contreras whipping the Mariners. Bloomquist pinch-hitting for Petagine. Petagine starting at first base. Lawton in CF. Reed pinch-hitting for Rivera. Felix unable to exceed 93 on the radar gun. I suppose I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
As if the Mariners getting beaten by the White Sox 4-0 wasn't enough, the Chiba Lotte Marines got shelled 10-1 as well in an afternoon game. Yuck.
It occurred to me that the word "Marinerd" could conveniently also be a "Marine nerd" as well as a "Mariner nerd".
Speaking of Marine nerds, I just read a pretty awesome interview with Brian Sikorski, who is now pitching with the Portland Beavers. He was on the Lotte Marines for three years and the Yomiuri Giants for two, though, and talks a bit about his experience in Japan. I agree with his taste in sushi restaurants.
And of course, if you've been having thoughts lately like "Is Alex Rodriguez overpaid?", or "What if Rickey Henderson had Pete Incaviglia's legs?", or perhaps "Five starters or four?" and "Why doesn't Billy Beane's shit work in the playoffs?", or maybe just "What will it take for Deanna to stop plugging book club?", then you probably want to come to Elliott Bay on Saturday and ask questions and share opinions.
